Scheme changes: non-members
If you work for the NHS but are not a Scheme member, you will be able to join the current Scheme up to 31 March 2008.
If you join the NHS Pension Scheme on or before 31 March 2008, your pension will be subject to changes coming into effect on 1 April 2008. You will also have the choice of switching to the New NHS Pension Scheme for a limited period, planned to run from 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2010.
If you become a pension scheme member on or after 1 April 2008, you will only be able to join the New NHS Pension Scheme. A printed leaflet with basic information about how the NHS Pension Scheme is changing was provided to NHS employers to circulate with pay advice in November 2007, but you can read more about the changes in the factsheet NHS Pension Scheme changes: non-members that is available in the members’ library.
