Pensioners & dependants
These pages are for people receiving a pension from the NHS (pensioners), or for people drawing a survivor pension and/or child allowances as a widow, widower, surviving civil partner or child of an NHS Pension Scheme member (dependants).
Changes to the NHS Pension Scheme that became effective 1 April 2008 mean that different rules and benefits apply to pensioners (and therefore their dependants) depending on whether they retired (or died) on or before 1 April 2008, or after this date.
For those that retired (or died) on or before 1 April, the rules and benefits of the NHS Pension Scheme (pre 1 April 08 terms) apply. For those that retired (died) after this date, the rules and benefits of the NHS Pension Scheme (Amended April 2008) apply.
The differences in the rules and benefits are reflected within the text of Booklet R, Notes for pensioners and their dependants given to all Scheme members when they retire, that can be downloaded from these pages.

If you have a query in connection with payment of your pension, please write or telephone Paymaster, Sutherland House, Russell Way, Crawley, West Sussex, RH10 1UH. Tel: 0845 1212 522. You will need to give them your pension reference number. This is different from your scheme membership number.
