These pages are for people planning retirement who want to understand their options and the process for claiming their pension when they retire.
Retirement benefits and the normal retirement age and are different for the NHS Pension Scheme (Amended April 2008) and the New NHS Pension Scheme, and the differences are set out on the following pages.
There are special arrangements for people who retire early as a result of redundancy or ill-health. These are described in the booklet Early Retirement (SDER) available from the members library.
